Community Services
The Greene County Animal Welfare Coalition strives to keep pets in their loving homes, thereby reducing the number of animals in shelters, dumped, euthanized, or finding themselves in possibly worse situations.
We know that many families have to decide on providing for their pets or covering their basic living costs and needs. Giving up an animal is just as hard for the animals as it can be for the humans - often ripping them from the only, often very loving home they have ever known.
When possible, GCAWC offers various types of assistance to qualifying families.
Please review the programs below and follow the contact information/next steps.
As a reminder - we are completely VOLUNTEER RUN and some of the services are completely dependent on the donations we receive and therefore what we have available at any given time. We always try to help, but are not able to help immediately in every situation.

Pet Food
If the only thing preventing you from being the best pawrent ever is that you are unable to consistently feed your animals, please reach out, we may be able to help. This should not be relied upon as an ongoing food source for your pets, but rather as a true emergency. We may ask you to consider the spay/neuter program in combination with providing food, so that you do not have the added burden of puppies and kittens to feed.
Spay/Neuter
Spaying and neutering your pets helps them live longer, happier, healthier lives! It also reduces and prevents:
Unwanted behaviors such as fighting, roaming (and getting hit by a car, vet bills, etc.), spraying in your home, mounting people and other animals
Unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, and reduces the overall pet euthanasia numbers in shelters
Prostate problems, testicular and mammary tumors, uterine cancer, eliminates heat cycles
GCAWC is able to assist with a few spays and neuters per month to qualified owners. Additionally, there is a program which traps, neuters/spays and re-releases feral cats (for FREE)!
Dog Fencing / Yard
If your dog is currently on a chain or tie out, Chain Free Greeneville may be able to build you/your dog a fenced in area/run for free.
